content marketing means different things to different people. For some it means creating content and then selling that content, for others it means using content to sell something else.

Of course, all with blogs and to the social economy that we are creating online, content marketing could just as well mean creating lots of content and not selling anything at all. Of course, this means monetizing your blog through advertising.

Is advertising evil? Well, I don’t run ads on this site. But not because I think it’s evil. I would rather sell my own services, and my own products, then clutter up my own website with advertisements for other people’s products. Creating content and selling the content as well as using content to sell other things in my case thought leadership consulting and web design

However, the house of constant marketing has many room. So no, advertising is not evil. However, it must be approached delicately. Content marketing is all about trust, and without trust advertising has no meaning.

There’s lots of different ways to build trust, and you need to use all of them. The On Web Advertising bloghas just posted an excellent article on Web advertising and content marketing. While not specifically about trust, it addresses trust in content marketing.
